Say Halo Sandy

Say Halo Sandy, “Sandy”

Bio: Sandy is a New York bred war horse who retired from Finger Lakes on August 29, 2013. Sandy had a poor racing season in 2013 and was clearly sick of running. His trainer listed him through Finger Lakes Finest Thoroughbreds as urgently needing placement. Thanks to the FLF volunteers and shipping from Fast Track Horse Transport, we were able to retire Sandy and get him to our facility. He made a short pit stop at Huntington Meadow Stables during his transport and we thank them for their exceptional care!

Sandy started racing as a three year old and ran 55 times, with 7 firsts, 8 seconds and 5 thirds for total lifetime earnings of $96,303. Breeders’ Cup Nominated with six half siblings, he is by the famous NY sire Say Florida Sandy who won many awards during his racing career including NY Horse of The Year in 2001 as well as #2 all-time NY bred money earner, behind Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner, Funny Cide. Say Florida Sandy was also a hardy war horse who held up for 98 starts with over $2 million in earnings.

Sandy received a few months of downtime after coming off the track in August and was restarted under saddle and over small fences. He is calm, cool and collected and enjoys being in work. Sandy was officially adopted on July 14, 2014 and headed to Vermont where he will be doing trails and fox hunting with his new mom.
