Influential, “Zoey”
Bio: Zoey is a New York bred mare who retired from Finger Lakes Race Track in June 2008. Zoey went through the New York Breeders’ Sales Company August 2005 sale as a yearling and RNA’d for $3,000. She went on to be lightly raced with only 8 starts, never placing and earning only $1,043. Zoey has two full siblings and five half siblings.
Following her racing retirement, Zoey was abandoned at a farm near the race track. She made her way to Lollypop Farm Humane Society in November 2011. She spent 8 months in their wonderful care before being adopted. During her 8 month stay, Zoey was tried by a potential adopter outside and unseated her rider as a large group of people were passing by. Lollypop Farm is unsure if they length of the ride or the commotion of the group of people caused Zoey’s reaction. When their staff had worked with her during her stay, they had never had any issues other than this incident. The girl who did adopt her tried her at Lollypop Farm’s facility with her trainer and also had no issues.
Zoey spent a year and a half in her adopters’ care and was worked by her trainer as well. During an outdoor lesson with her trainer, the adopter fell off Zoey after she became too fast and strong when asked to canter. Zoey was returned to Lollypop Farm as her adopter was not experienced enough to ride her safely. The trainer recommended Zoey get consistent professional training with an experienced rider who can handle reactive, strong horses.
Zoey was transferred to our facility by Lollypop Farm on April 30, 2014. Due to a recent large horse seizure limiting space and resources and the clientele base for Lollypop Farm, it was decided that Zoey would need more consistent, one-on-one training to ready her for adoption by an experienced rider. Zoey is a cute, sweet mare who came in excellent condition, up to date on all shots and Coggins. She spent a month at a nearby facility for a month of professional restarting to boost her retraining.
Zoey attended our Thoroughbred Jubilee Benefit Horse Show on July 7, 2014 and placed second and third in the T.I.P. English Pleasure Division. She also schooled over a few courses at a local show in September 2014. Zoey has been in consistent work and is proving to be super athletic and a fancy mover. She was placed on January 11, 2015, our second adoption of 2015!
