Ghostly Vision

Ghostly Vision – “Ghost”

Bio: Ghost is a New York bred gelding who was a pretty decent racer up until his retirement in March 2014. He is Breeders’ Cup nominated and was sold for $100,000 as a yearling (Hip #278) at the Fasig-Tipton August 2011 sale. Previously, he was listed as a weanling for $70,000 (Hip #660) at the Keeneland November 2010 sale, but did not sell. Ghost raced 13 times and earned $136,350 from 2 firsts, 2 seconds and 4 thirds before his final race on March 3, 2014 at Aqueduct where he was eased and DNF, but was claimed by a new owner/trainer for $25,000. Ghost has five half siblings.

Ghost came into our care after contact from the dealer who we previously got T F Javana Miss and T F Bobbi Lynn from. Quick negotiations were made as “the auction is tomorrow” and we were able to secure Ghost, Elizabeth’s Flair and Heartfelt Jazz from heading to Unadilla. All three arrived on July 18, 2014 and were immediately placed in quarantine at our rented barn just up the road from our main facility.

Upon first inspection, Ghost appeared either sick or drugged. He seemed unsteady on his feet, slow moving and with heavy eyelids. He also is actively draining pus from a puncture above his left knee. Ghost is the thinnest of the three and is covered in scrapes and old cuts, having most likely been the low man in the herd and been beaten up over food by other horses. He has a good appetite and thirst and by the next morning was much more perky and happy. He was started on antibiotics for his knee and was seen by a vet a few days later for a checkup, Coggins and a rabies vaccine.

Preliminarily without having x-rays, Ghost appears lame in his right front leg. He also has a blemish on his left knee associated with the draining puncture mark. At some point in his short racing career he was also pin-fired on both fronts. We have contacted his previous racing connections who are supposed to be sending us his papers and medical records regarding the injuries that ended his racing career.

Ghost has finished his 30 days of QT and has moved to our main facility. He needs to gain a few hundred pounds before starting any training and will most likely need new leg x-rays if we do not receive his medical records from his racing connections. He is an extremely sweet guy who loves attention and pampering and at this point is happy to be safe and getting good quality hay and grain.

Tracks Attended: Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga.
