Fascinating Star

Fascinating Star, “Justin”

Bio: Justin is a California bred who was previously purchased by a riding facility in the Catskills from the 2012 Unadilla Spring auction for $210. He was used for summer camp, lessons and showing and was eventually offered for sale. With no interest, Justin was faced with the threat of heading back to Unadilla before winter. We stepped in and took him and Matty (Don’t Tell My Wife) to prevent that fate and they arrived to our facility on October 18, 2013. Both Justin and Matty were thin upon arrival but otherwise healthy. Justin started racing as a 3 year old and ran 43 times, achieving 2 firsts and 2 thirds for earnings of $18,428. He is Breeders’ Cup Nominated and has 11 half siblings.

Justin was showing signs of his age with some arthritis in his joints. Throughout the winter, he experienced on-again, off-again lameness in his left hind leg. Upon vet evaluation, it was first thought that he might have a hoof abscess but nothing could be found with hoof testers and it was decided that the pain was stemming from his hip/stifle region. The pain was most likely due to age-related arthritis or a past injury. By spring 2014, Justin’s lameness had increased and the decision was made for him to be humanely euthanized due to his age and condition. It was clear that he had a chronic moderate-severe lameness that could only be controlled through pain meds for the rest of his life, a treatment that is not fair to him and potentially detrimental to his other organ systems. Justin crossed the rainbow bridge on May 14, 2014 with good food in his belly, warmth and love.
