Sand Box

Sand Box, “Rizzo”

Bio: Rizzo is a young Pennsylvania bred mare who retired from Parx Racing in July 2014. Her owner and trainer listed her through CANTER PA in hopes of finding her the best home after her racing retirement. She had two separate parties who had her on trial. Both parties ended up choosing other horses. The second had Rizzo vetted at which time it was discovered that she would need periodic S1 injections to be an upper level jumper (3’6+) and that she had mild arthritis in her ankles. Her owner and trainer treated her arthritis with IRAP therapy after her findings.

Rizzo started racing as a three year old and had just 10 starts, 2 firsts, 1 second and 3 thirds for $48,198 in earnings. She has two half sisters.

We were contacted by her trainer in regards to helping retrain and place Rizzo into a good, lifelong home. Her trainer had previously owned a horse we had in our care, Two Brash, and was very thankful that we had helped him adjust to life off the track and to find a loving home. Rizzo arrived to our facility on December 31, 2014, fully let down and ready to learn.

Rizzo is a big, sweet girl with very lofty, beautiful movement. She is a true 16.2 hands and probably has room to grow. She is a weaver in her stall but enjoys being turned out. Rizzo was adopted by Hunter Landing Equestrian on February 25, 2015 along with Grover (JC: Flag Is Flying). She will be showing and doing lessons in her new home!
