Heartfelt Jazz

Heartfelt Jazz, “Jazz”

Bio: Jazz is a New York bred filly who retired from Finger Lakes Race Track on April 29, 2014 following her last race where she placed third but was vanned off back to the stables per the track vets. Jazz sold as a yearling for $15,000 (Hip #639) at the Fasig-Tipton October 2012 sale. She was listed again for $23,000 (Hip #1133) at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales April 2013 sale as a two-year-old but did not sell. She then sold for $30,000 (Hip #285) as a two-year-old at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales June 2013 sale. Jazz went on to start racing as a two year old and had five lifetime starts, earning 3 thirds and $7,920 before her final race at Finger Lakes. She was also once claimed for $12,500. Jazz is Breeders’ Cup nominated and has three half siblings and four full siblings, including Gazellephant, a filly placed last year through the Finger Lakes Finest Thoroughbreds listing service.

Jazz came into our care after contact from the dealer who we previously got T F Javana Miss and T F Bobbi Lynn from. Quick negotiations were made as “the auction is tomorrow” and we were able to secure Jazz, Elizabeth’s Flair and Ghostly Vision from heading to Unadilla. All three arrived on July 18, 2014 and were immediately placed in quarantine at our rented barn just up the road from our main facility.

A vet was out a few days later at which time all three horses received rabies vaccines and Coggins. Jazz has a large bump on her right front knee, had an infection in her left front fetlock, and has some lameness in her hocks. She was noticeably lame and given the prognosis of possibly being light riding sound in a year+. X-rays would be needed for a full evaluation. We contacted her last trainer who said he would send all three horses medical records and JC papers but we still have not received anything. Jazz had a course of antibiotics to clear up her infection and continued receiving good quality hay and grain in QT.

We were able to get in contact with Jazz’s original breeders who agreed to take her back. On August 17, 2014, the last day of her 30 day quarantine, Jazz was shipped home to Saratoga Glen Farm. We thank them for being responsible breeders and taking care of one of their own! We would also like to thank Amanda for helping us find shipping and to Athena for providing safe, comfortable transport!
