Two Brash, “Sammy
Sammy was laid to rest in April of 2016 after succumbing what was thought to be liver failure. He was loved and pampered by his adoptive family and forever in all of our hearts.
Bio: Sammy is a Kentucky bred gelding who retired from racing in February 2013. Sammy came to us after we spotted him on Craigslist for $200 just a month off the track. He was looking ribby and arrived to our facility on April 6, 2013 with all four racing plates still on. We became his third owners since retiring mid-February. Sammy has a cloudy right eye that is likely due to a racing injury that doesn’t bother him at all. His shoes were pulled upon arrival and he gained a considerable amount of weight.
Sammy began his career after selling as a yearling at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga Select Yearling Sale for $300,000. He went on to start racing as a two year old and ran 41 times, earning $205,562 from 5 firsts, 7 seconds, and 6 thirds. He was claimed twice during his career for $12,500 and once for $16,000 before retiring as a warhorse. Sammy is Breeders’ Cup Nominated and has four half siblings.
Sammy was adopted into his forever home on July 27, 2013, just a few weeks after attending his first show where he placed well in a cross rail division and did lead line with a six year old. He is now a phenomenal trail horse and spends his day being doted over by his new owners!
