Kind Regards, “Glenn”

Bio: Glenn came to us after we saw his ad posted on a Facebook group. After contacting his seller, we realized we had seen him posted on Craigslist just a few weeks prior by someone else. We contacted his previous racing connections and breeder and were able to buy him through a donation. While Glenn was of good weight, he had many cuts and scrapes on him, having been a lower man in a herd of around 20 at his previous location. He was also very footsore and had a terrible case of worms. Our farrier was out for a trim and shoes shortly after his arrival and his cuts were treated. Through proper nutrition, good grooming and deworming, Glenn was given a clean bill of health and his footsoreness resolved.

Glenn is a Kentucky bred who started racing as a 3 year old and had 32 starts, 8 firsts, 7 seconds and 2 thirds for $142,153 in earnings. Glenn is Breeders’ Cup Nominated and has seven half siblings. He retired from racing in December 2012 and was placed with a long-term foster/adopter on June 14, 2013 to a local volunteer. There he was trained in dressage but his true calling was trail riding.

On April 5, 2014, Glenn was adopted into a home who planned to use him for trail riding. Just prior to his departure from his foster home, Glenn had an accident while being ridden on the road. Cornell Ambulatory was called to the scene and he was cleared for trailer transport back to his foster home with just some cuts and scrapes. Three weeks into his adoption with his new family, Glenn went lame and developed swelling in his left hock. He was x-rayed by a local vet and put on stall rest pending surgery for a bone chip. Two separate grants were written in order to secure aide for his surgery, which was estimated to be $2,700. Glenn was taken to Cornell University for surgery and at that time it was determined that his injuries were too extensive and that he had less than a 30% chance of being pasture sound. We made the decision to have Glenn humanely euthanized instead of putting him through a painful surgery with a poor prognosis. Glenn was buried on his fosters farm and peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge on July 8, 2014.
