Biscuit Boy

Biscuit Boy, “Biscuit”

Bio: Biscuit came into our care on October 29, 2012 after his former owner posted a plea for help on a local Facebook group. Biscuit was dropping weight and had hoof issues that weren’t resolving, no matter what his owner did. Upon arrival, Biscuit immediately saw our farrier who gave him a trim and assessed his lameness. His left front hoof is club footed and had graveled and his right front had a subsolar abscess. Our vet saw him on October 31st and he received shots and had a Coggins pulled. He was given a 1-2 BCS on the Henneke scale. Biscuit was put on a course of antibiotics and a re-feeding program to alleviate his lameness and to gain weight.

Thanks to networking and support from those on Facebook, we were able to connect with Biscuit’s former trainer from Delaware Park who stepped up to support him, offering to finish his rehab. In the weeks to follow, Biscuit gained a considerable amount of weight and it was apparent that he was feeling much better. He enjoyed daily turnout and would come cantering when his name was called, proof that his hooves felt better. Biscuit benefited from good quality hay and grain and a warm blanket and dry stall at night. By November 16th, he had gained approximately 100 pounds and was cleared for transport by our vet to Delaware Park to be with his former trainer. Biscuit loaded quietly and was met with a well-bedded stall and fresh hay and water, on the road to his full recovery and new life.

Biscuit is a Kentucky bred who sold for $30,000 as a yearling at the 2008 September Keeneland Sale (Hip #2845). He began racing as a three year old and ran 8 times, earning 1 first and $14,201. His last race was August 6, 2011 and he had at least three different owners following his racing retirement before coming to us. Biscuit is Breeders’ Cup Nominated and has 15 half siblings.
